CAUSES AND SKINCARE TIPS FOR PEOPLE WITH FRECKLES
(By Lenne Zulkifly on 31st May 2020)
If you have freckled skin, no worries, it’s common. I personally think it’s cute and it’s mostly associated with natural and fresh skin. Let’s not forget how people on the internet wanting to have freckled skin by drawing on faux freckles on their faces.
But what are (real) freckles? Why do we get freckles? Is it harmful?
Well, freckles are tiny, little brown spots that usually appear on the face. Those little brown specs are what we call melanin. The more time you spend in the sun, the more melanin is produced. Apparently, they are natural and harmless. So why do we get freckles, again? Normally, it’s because of sun exposure and, of course, genetics. But we’re not here to talk about the genes.
In Malaysia, we have summer all year long. So, technically, we’re prone to get freckles and sun spots because our skin is regularly exposed to the sun. As you may know, the sunlight has UV rays and these UV rays are the primary causes of skin damage. Do you know that the UV rays can penetrate deep into your skin layers and it can cause long-term skin damage? Ever heard of skin cancer? Yup. On top of that, if you’re constantly staying in a hot environment, meaning to say, if you have a job that needs you to stay in high temperature all round the clock, that will also increase the melanin production since it’s more triggered to heat as well.
So what should you do now?
- Stay out of the sun and do not get exposed to the direct sunlight straight for more than 1 hour.
- Stay in the shade when the sun is the hottest, between 10 am and 2 pm.
- Please consider wearing long sleeves. A hat and a pair of sunnies may come in handy too!
- Your skincare should be a top priority to protect and control your skin.
Useful skincare tips for caring freckled skin (since this is a beauty blog):
Always apply moisturizer after being out in the sun. Call me crazy but it’s always this time of the year where the heat is always testing everyone’s patience. So, the moisturizer from Hansaegee Nature is the perfect fit for you. The Aqua Whitening Cream moisturizer can give you a cooling sensation after every application. It penetrates deep into skin layers so your skin stays cool and moisturized even in high-temperature situations. Apart from that, the Aqua Whitening Cream moisturizer also has a high percentage of Niacinamide (also known as Vitamin B3) to help diminish dullness, enlarged pores, improve uneven skin tone, and strengthen a weakened surface. If you happen to have freckles, this moisturizer is great to control the brown specs to turn even darker.
Wear sunscreen every day. Even if you’re at home. Wear sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection and make sure it has an SPF of 30 or higher. The Gold Nano CC Cream from Hansaegee Nature is my current favorite because it acts as a sunscreen to me since it has SPF of 50+ PA+++ to protect my face from UVA and UVB radiation. I know it’s a CC cream, and not really a sunscreen but this product closely resembles a physical sunscreen. It has at least 5 UV filters that are working together to shield the skin from harmful UV rays. It’s perfect for one of those days that you don’t feel like putting on heavy makeup. I appreciate Hansaegee Nature for formulating this CC cream very light in texture, not oily and sticky, and most importantly comfortable on the skin.
Always opt for good skincare ingredients. Freckled skin deserves the best care. You should look for skincare that uses no parabens, alcohol, and sulfate. The moisturizer and CC cream from Hansaegee Nature use none of that, which I’m grateful for. Your skin can’t be mad for no apparent reason because the ingredients they use in their skincare is the absolute best.
Having to say that, freckles are rarely treated. Freckles prevention is much more effective than freckles removal. That is why the main prevention is aimed at sun protection. If you’re one that wants to get rid of your freckles but doesn’t take your skincare seriously, you will end up with more freckles. It won’t budge with some ‘magic cream’ you found on the internet that claims to get rid of it. Even if it is true, though, they will come back.
Freckles are beautiful and what makes one so unique – learn how to make the most out of it by just following simple skincare tips I’ve given you. Be particular when it comes to your skin. Wear your moisturizer 2 times a day (morning and night) and reapply your SPF at least every 3 hours. Be safe and stay out of the sun too long to lessen the melanin production so the skin may produce fewer freckles.
